Prepare for CompTIA Security+ through an RDE certification-preparation route covering security concepts, threats, vulnerabilities, architecture, operations, identity, risk management and incident response.
CompTIA Security+ is a vendor-neutral cybersecurity certification for professionals who need core capability across security operations, risk, architecture and incident response. RDE provides a certification-preparation route aligned to the current CompTIA Security+ objectives.
What the preparation covers
The route focuses on general security concepts, threats and vulnerabilities, secure architecture, security operations, identity and access, risk management, governance, cryptography, monitoring and incident response. Learning is designed to help candidates understand the knowledge areas assessed in the current Security+ examination.
Exam and certification
RDE does not currently include a CompTIA exam voucher with this preparation route. Candidates register for and pay for the official CompTIA examination separately through CompTIA's current authorised exam-booking process. CompTIA awards the certification after successful completion of the applicable assessment.
Who this route is for
This route is suitable for cybersecurity entrants, IT support and infrastructure professionals, junior security practitioners and people who want a recognised vendor-neutral foundation in security.
Entry guidance
For the current V7 route, CompTIA recommends Network+ and two years in security or systems administration. RDE can discuss a suitable foundation before you select this route.
Practical preparation
Review a sample security incident, identify risks and explain appropriate access, monitoring and response controls. These are suggested practice activities. RDE will confirm the preparation format and any available lab access before enrolment.
Assessment format
The current SY0-701 assessment lasts 90 minutes, with a maximum of 90 multiple-choice and performance-based questions. Check the official booking process for current delivery and identification requirements.
Upcoming exam update
Security+ V7 (SY0-701) is available at this review date. CompTIA expects V8 (SY0-801) to launch on or around 17 November 2026, with updated coverage including AI-related risks. Confirm the exam version and objectives for your planned booking before starting preparation.
Validity and renewal
Three years from award; renew before expiry through an eligible CompTIA Continuing Education route. Eligible renewal activities, evidence and fees depend on the credential and renewal path. Check the official policy before arranging renewal.
Career development
Combine certification preparation with practical evidence and relevant experience. Discuss your current skills and target role with RDE when selecting a route.
