Data Foundations Program (DFP)

Build practical data foundations across spreadsheets, SQL, visualisation, Python, statistics, Agile data working and responsible AI-assisted analysis.

Build a practical starting point in data analysis. This 18-week beginner programme develops spreadsheet, SQL, visualisation, Python and statistical foundations so that you can investigate data and explain findings clearly.

What you will develop

  • Use Excel, Google Sheets and PowerPoint for analytical work; develop formulas, pivot tables and charts.
  • Understand the analytical lifecycle and practise SQL queries, joins and aggregations.
  • Explore Power BI and Tableau fundamentals, Python variables, loops and data structures.
  • Develop descriptive statistics, probability awareness and Agile/Scrum concepts for data projects.
  • Use AI assistance for queries, formulas and dashboard ideas while checking accuracy and protecting confidential information.

Practical work

Build a sales dashboard using Excel and Power BI. Explain the source data, preparation choices, measures and findings, and identify limitations in the analysis.

Explore junior analysis, reporting, BI assistance and data-focused support opportunities. Employers may require additional domain knowledge, qualifications or practical experience.

UK salary and contract-rate guide

Evidence reviewed: 6 October 2026. These examples describe the employment market for named roles and help you explore career progression.

The National Careers Service data analyst-statistician profile spans £28,000 starter to £65,000 experienced a year. This occupation includes statistical work and is broader than some junior analyst vacancies. Treat it as whole-career context, not a junior-only range or an immediate post-course expectation.

Junior contract-rate evidence remains limited. Professional contract benchmarks should not be treated as entry-level expectations.

Salary and contract-rate figures are indicative UK market ranges based on publicly available evidence reviewed at the stated date. Actual earnings vary according to experience, location, employer, sector, qualifications, responsibilities and employment type. Course completion does not guarantee employment, promotion or a particular level of earnings.

Mentoring and career support

Mentoring connects technical learning with practical development and professional evidence. Your programme includes six months of job-search support and three months of in-role support. Discuss the arrangements and starting dates with our team, including CV, LinkedIn and interview preparation. Employment is not guaranteed.

Certification and assessment information

Discuss Microsoft Office Specialist: Excel Associate (Microsoft 365 Apps), Tableau foundational skills and a suitable SQL or Agile learning certificate. The current Tableau catalogue lists Salesforce Certified Tableau Desktop Foundations. Power BI learning can support a later PL-300 route, but PL-300 is an associate-level qualification, not a fundamentals examination.

Programme completion is separate from passing an awarding body examination. Confirm the qualification route, assessments, examination access, additional costs and renewal arrangements before enrolment. No vendor award, provider endorsement or examination pass is guaranteed by course completion.
