Agile Leadership Foundations (ALF)

Build practical foundations in Agile ways of working, Scrum, Kanban, product ownership, team collaboration, backlog management, estimation, planning and facilitation.

Build practical Agile team skills through an 18-week foundation programme. Explore Scrum, Kanban and Lean basics while developing the collaboration and facilitation habits needed to support iterative delivery.

What you will develop

  • Apply Agile values, principles and mindset to team collaboration and delivery decisions.
  • Explore Scrum Master responsibilities and Product Owner foundations, with SCRUMstudy preparation themes.
  • Create user stories and prioritised backlogs; practise estimation, planning, story points and velocity interpretation.
  • Use Kanban work-in-progress limits, flow and bottleneck analysis alongside Jira and Confluence team boards.
  • Practise communication, coaching and facilitation through project simulation workshops.

Practical work

Run a Scrum simulation using team boards, a prioritised backlog, planning evidence and review outcomes. Explain how the team handled impediments, collaboration and continuous improvement.

Career directions

Build evidence for Agile team support and introductory Scrum or product-support opportunities. Progression to Scrum Master or Product Owner work depends on delivery experience, organisational context and the responsibilities of the vacancy.

UK salary and contract-rate guide

Evidence reviewed: 6 October 2026. These selected UK job-title benchmarks support career planning and are not junior-only or guaranteed post-course earnings. Ranges represent the 25th to 75th percentiles in separate IT Jobs Watch vacancy samples.

Scrum Master

Permanent advertised salary: £60,000 to £75,000 a year. Contract rate: £463 to £588 a day.

Permanent salary source: Scrum Master

Contract-rate source: Scrum Master

The permanent sample contains 43 salaries over six months to 3 October 2026; the contract sample contains 123 daily rates over six months to 6 October 2026. These are different vacancy samples, not a matched pay package. Junior-specific rates need separate evidence.

Contract income depends on billable days, engagement terms, tax treatment including IR35, expenses and gaps between assignments.

Salary and contract-rate figures are indicative UK market ranges based on publicly available evidence reviewed at the stated date. Actual earnings vary according to experience, location, employer, sector, qualifications, responsibilities and employment type. Course completion does not guarantee employment, promotion or a particular level of earnings.

Mentoring and career support

Mentoring connects technical learning with practical development and professional evidence. Your programme includes six months of job-search support and three months of in-role support. Discuss the arrangements and starting dates with our team, including CV, LinkedIn and interview preparation. Employment is not guaranteed.

Certification and assessment information

Discuss preparation for SCRUMstudy Scrum Fundamentals Certified (SFC), Scrum Master Certified (SMC) and Scrum Product Owner Certified (SPOC). These are separate vendor credentials with their own assessments. Agree which preparation and examination arrangements apply to your pathway. The generic Agile Practitioner Certificate label requires a named awarding body and assessment.

Verify current SCRUMstudy certification pathways

RDE programme completion is separate from earning a vendor credential. Confirm preparation scope, authorised provider arrangements where required, eligibility, examination access, additional costs, subscriptions and renewals before enrolment. Preparation does not guarantee an examination pass or certification.

Your next step

Register your interest to discuss your experience, starting point, current delivery arrangements, tools and software access, assessment, certification options, fees and any available funding. Confirm the current intake and support arrangements before making a commitment.
