Develop NHS-focused compliance, governance and risk capability across data protection, governance frameworks, risk assessment, information security, change control, audit and healthcare confidentiality.
Develop healthcare governance, risk and assurance skills in a 20 to 22-week programme. Connect confidentiality, data management and change control through a compliance case study.
What you will develop
- Explore NHS compliance context, Care Quality Commission awareness and relevant NHS standards.
- Apply data-protection and confidentiality concepts to healthcare governance scenarios.
- Use governance frameworks and risk assessment to document issues, controls and responsibilities.
- Explore DAMA-DMBOK data-governance themes, IT security and information-management practice.
- Practise change control, audit evidence and assurance reporting for simulated healthcare systems.
Practical work
Present a risk and compliance case study with documented risks, controls, governance evidence and recommended actions. Explain assumptions and where specialist review would be needed.
Career directions
Explore information-governance, compliance and assurance support opportunities. Data Protection Officer, governance lead and risk-manager posts require role-specific expertise, experience and accountability.
UK salary and contract-rate guide
Evidence reviewed: 6 October 2026. NHS examples below use England Agenda for Change basic annual pay for 2026/27, effective from 1 April 2026, and named employer vacancy evidence. They are full-time equivalent figures before regional supplements; part-time posts are paid pro rata. Devolved nations, employers and job duties can use different arrangements.
Information Governance Officer
Royal Berkshire’s Information Governance Officer example is Band 6: £39,959 to £48,117 a year. It is a fixed-term salaried post, not a day-rate consultancy contract. This does not establish pay for Data Protection Officers, risk managers or governance directors.

Contract work
Day-rate engagements are separate from salaried Agenda for Change appointments. Rates depend on the specific role, experience, location, engagement terms and tax treatment including IR35. A fixed-term employment contract does not automatically mean contractor day-rate work. Compare current role-specific advertisements; annual pay bands cannot be converted into an advertised contractor range.
Salary and contract-rate figures are indicative UK market ranges based on publicly available evidence reviewed at the stated date. Actual earnings vary according to experience, location, employer, sector, qualifications, responsibilities and employment type. Course completion does not guarantee employment, promotion or a particular level of earnings.
Mentoring and career support
Mentoring connects technical learning with practical development and professional evidence. Your programme includes six months of job-search support and three months of in-role support. Discuss the arrangements and starting dates with our team, including CV, LinkedIn and interview preparation. Employment is not guaranteed.
Certification and assessment information
GDPR practitioner, Agile change management and ISO 27001 awareness labels need exact providers, assessments and credential names. Awareness is separate from professional practitioner or lead-auditor certification. DAMA-DMBOK study is knowledge development, not itself the Certified Data Management Professional (CDMP) award. RDE internal governance recognition does not imply an NHS-issued qualification.
