Goal and audience
Develop a small, organised set of career evidence and a practical next-step plan.
This self-directed practice path is for learners who want an organised way to use existing Digest resources. It is not an enrolled course, a qualification or a certificate programme.
Before you start
A real example from work, study or volunteering; a notebook or document editor. No digital job title is required.
As an RDE planning estimate, allow around 30 to 60 minutes for each step, or roughly 2.5 to 5 hours in total. Your pace and prior experience will affect the time needed. Pause and repeat a step when its review question remains unanswered.
How to use the path
Follow the steps in order. Each resource opens in a new tab; keep this path open and return here for the activity and review question. Previous and next links move between steps on this page. Record your own notes and outputs privately. This page does not track, save or certify completion; account-based progress tracking is deferred.
Step 1 of 5: Choose a real task
Open resource: Turn Your Experience into Evidence for a Digital Career Opens in a new tab.
Practice
Write what you did, the circumstances, your contribution and an observable result. Keep facts separate from claims about your ability.
Produce
A factual task account of 150 to 200 words.
Review before moving on
Can another person identify your own contribution without assuming that you did all the team work?
Step 2 of 5: Choose a direction to investigate
Open resource: Choose Your Next Digital Role with an Evidence-Based Plan Opens in a new tab.
Practice
Compare two role directions against your task evidence and one current job description for each. Record the source date and avoid treating a title as a complete description of the work.
Produce
A short comparison with one chosen direction and a reason.
Review before moving on
Which requirement is supported by evidence, and which remains a development gap?
Step 3 of 5: Organise transferable skills
Open resource: Transferable Skills Evidence Workbook Opens in a new tab.
Practice
Use the workbook to connect two genuine examples to specific capabilities. Remove confidential details and distinguish an example you can discuss from one you can share publicly.
Produce
Two evidence entries and a confidentiality check.
Review before moving on
Does each entry show an action and result rather than a list of adjectives?
Step 4 of 5: Review application readiness
Open resource: Digital Job Application Readiness Checklist Opens in a new tab.
Practice
Use the checklist against one sample opportunity. Compare each requirement with your evidence and check consistency between the application, CV and portfolio.
Produce
A readiness review with the three most useful amendments.
Review before moving on
Can you justify every claim and explain any gaps honestly?
Step 5 of 5: Plan the next practice cycle
Open resource: A Practical Digital Career Development Plan Template Opens in a new tab.
Practice
Choose one gap, one practice activity, one evidence item to produce and a review date. Ask a trusted reviewer for specific feedback rather than a general approval.
Produce
A development plan and a first review date.
Review before moving on
Is the next action small enough to start, and is there a clear way to review the evidence?
Review your practice pack
Bring the five outputs together. For each, record the date, what you produced, the evidence you checked and the next amendment. Ask a trusted reviewer for specific feedback where possible. Completing the sequence means you have attempted these practice activities; it does not establish job readiness, professional competence or accreditation.

- A readiness review with the three most useful amendments. Record: attempted, reviewed or needs further work.
- A development plan and a first review date. Record: attempted, reviewed or needs further work.
Select one improvement and set a realistic review date. Return to the relevant step when your evidence or understanding changes.
