Plan Your Routine Digital Safety Review

Make the review manageable

Choose the personal devices and services you want to review. Identify what you use them for and what information matters. A short plan with specific actions is easier to follow than a general intention to improve security.

The fictional example covers a learner’s laptop, phone and learning accounts. The template records device types and actions, without serial numbers, credentials or private account details.

Review the available protections

Use official device and service guidance to check supported updates and security settings. The NCSC’s online-safety resources cover actions such as updates, account protection and backups. Record what you have checked and anything needing support.

Do not change a managed work device’s settings without the appropriate authority. If an update needs a restart or you are unsure whether a device is still supported, record the question and contact the responsible support team.

Assign actions and review points

Choose a practical next action for each issue. Record the owner, target date and how completion will be checked. Include a question for anything you cannot resolve yourself.

For the fictional learner, one action may be reviewing official recovery options for the main email account. Another may be checking a harmless practice backup. Keep the plan clear without turning it into a store of passwords or recovery codes.

Maintain the plan

Return to the plan when a device, account or sharing arrangement changes. Record the result of the review and the next date. Security needs attention over time; completing this template is not proof that every risk has been removed.
