Lean Six Sigma Green Belt certification is most useful when you connect the methods to a real improvement problem rather than learning terminology in isolation. The current 6sigmastudy Lean Six Sigma Green Belt (LSSGB™) route focuses on Lean and Six Sigma tools used to improve processes, reduce defects and support continuous improvement.

Understand the current route

6sigmastudy currently lists no prerequisite experience for LSSGB™. It states that Six Sigma Yellow Belt knowledge is preferable but not mandatory. The current certification examination is listed as 100 multiple-choice questions over 120 minutes, with no negative marking, delivered as an online unproctored examination.

The issuer currently requires certification maintenance through an LSSGB™ recertification examination every three years or by earning another qualifying 6sigmastudy certification under its current rules. Check the issuer page again before enrolment because examination and maintenance details can change.

Know what Green Belt capability should look like

A Green Belt should be able to move beyond naming DMAIC stages. Useful capability includes defining a problem carefully, understanding the process and customer need, selecting meaningful measures, checking data quality, investigating likely causes, evaluating improvements and thinking about how gains will be controlled.

Lean adds a strong focus on flow, value and waste. Six Sigma adds disciplined measurement and analysis. The combination works best when you can explain why a method is appropriate for the problem rather than applying every tool to every situation.

Build a small evidence project

Use a fictional or safely anonymised process that has a clear problem, such as delayed approval of training requests. Define the problem without assuming the cause. Draw the current process, identify customers and stakeholders, and choose one or two measures such as total lead time, rework rate or percentage of incomplete submissions.

Create a small practice dataset. Check missing values and definitions before calculating a baseline. Use a cause-and-effect approach to organise possible causes, then distinguish evidence from assumption. Propose one modest improvement, explain the expected mechanism and define how you would monitor whether the change actually worked.

Keep a short control plan showing the measure, owner, review frequency and action to take if performance deteriorates. Label the exercise clearly as practice. Do not invent savings, customer outcomes or statistical significance.

Understand the RDE relationship

RDE currently offers LSSGB™ through its VMEdu partner access. The applicable route can include authorised learning materials and examination access. The external certification is issued by 6sigmastudy only after the candidate successfully satisfies the current examination requirements. An RDE course completion record is not a substitute for the external certification.

Prepare in four stages

Stage 1: foundations. Review process thinking, customer requirements, basic descriptive statistics and the purpose of DMAIC.

Stage 2: methods. Practise choosing tools for specific questions: process mapping for flow, Pareto analysis for concentration, cause-and-effect analysis for structured hypotheses, and control thinking for sustaining change.

Stage 3: application. Complete a small end-to-end improvement exercise and explain every important choice. A reviewer should be able to reproduce your baseline from the same data.

Stage 4: certification readiness. Compare your revision coverage with the current official route, then check the latest examination format and maintenance rules before booking.

Readiness checklist

  • Can you define a measurable problem without embedding an assumed solution?
  • Can you explain the difference between a process symptom and a likely cause?
  • Can another person reproduce your baseline calculation?
  • Can you select a Lean or Six Sigma tool because it answers a specific question?
  • Have you checked the current official prerequisite guidance and exam format?
