Return to the goal

Write the development goal and the task it concerns. Check whether the goal is still relevant and achievable in your current circumstances. A review becomes easier when you can identify what you intended to practise and why.

In a fictional example, a learner wants to write project updates that identify decisions and owners clearly. The review concerns this writing skill rather than a broad claim that the learner has mastered project management.

Gather examples of practice

Select a small number of relevant examples and record their dates or versions. Describe what changed between attempts. Keep observation separate from your explanation of why the change happened.

Acas identifies agreed objectives and development plans as possible review inputs. In this RDE exercise, the learner compares an early fictional update with a revised one and records which decisions now have owners. Use authorised evidence references rather than copying restricted information.

Identify progress and remaining work

Explain what the examples show and what they do not establish. A stronger sample may show improvement in one task while leaving questions about consistency in other situations. Ask for feedback that relates to the goal.

Record a remaining difficulty, such as distinguishing a decision from an action. Consider whether different practice, guidance or support would help. Avoid treating one completed exercise as proof of permanent competence across every task.

Choose the next practice step

Download the PDF or Word template. Record the goal, examples, observations, feedback, limitations and next action. Agree a review point so the action has a clear place in your development work.

The fictional learner drafts another update and asks a mentor to check the decision wording. Revisit the goal when circumstances change. A practice review makes progress visible; it does not guarantee promotion, employment or a specific assessment result.
